Dublin Airport testing automated verification gates

May 10, 2013

A six-month trial of passport verification kiosks will take place at Dublin Airport, according to emigratesafe.com.

The e-gates will be offered only to citizens of Ireland over age 18 that arrive at the airport on international flights, the article reported. The trial is being run in conjunction with the Dublin Airport Authority and is supported by automated border gate technology provided at no cost by SITA and Accenture.

"Many major European airports are adopting a similar trend towards the deployment of automated gates for immigration control functions to enhance passengers' experience on arrival at airports while also strengthening border security," Minister for Justice Alan Shatter said. "The trial period will test the suitability of e-gates for use at Dublin Airport with a view to providing a more secure and efficient means for clearing passengers through immigration control."
