Dubai adding kiosks to public access mix

August 11, 2004

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Government officials in the United Arab Emirate of Dubai are preparing to launch the second phase of a technology initiative that will provide more government services through electronic means, including touchscreen kiosks.

Communications centers, touchscreen kiosks, and mobile phones are planned for the project's second phase, according to the Gulf News.

Emirate officials will offer training courses for companies and individuals that take part in the initiative. Participants will be given a username and password, which will give them access to the services.

Since the first phase of the project was launched last year, 262 government agencies and companies and 179 individuals have signed up for the electronic services. Available services include health and licensing certificates, statistics, library services, geographical information, and fees/fines collection.
