Plans to install an automated-payment kiosk alongside the Glasgow Electric Plant Board drive-through window in Glasgow, Kentucky are moving along, according to The Glasgow Daily Times.
GEPB Superintendent Billy Ray said at Tuesday's regular meeting of the utility's board of directors that final contracts are in the works and wiring is being run. A recent incident in which a robber broke into the after-hours drop box demonstrated the need for the kiosk.
The kiosk will allow customers to make secure payments 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which will lessen the traffic at the drive-through window.
GEPB discourages people from putting cash payments in the drop box because there is no way for them to get a receipt for it at the time, and it sets up a potential argument about whether their payments were made, he said.
With the advent of GEPB's prepay system, for which customers can put money toward their accounts just as they need it, people are often lined up first thing in the morning at the drive-through window to ensure their accounts get credited early enough.
