DigitalPersona intros keyboard with built-in fingerprint reader

March 20, 2007

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — DigitalPersona Inc. announced the availability of the DigitalPersona U.are.U Fingerprint Keyboard with new ergonomic design and built-in DigitalPersona placement optical reader. The new integrated keyboard eliminates the need for desktop users to attach two USB devices such as a keyboard and fingerprint reader.

"Fingerprint biometrics is rapidly gaining acceptance in enterprises, and the marketplace is increasingly witnessing the integration of fingerprint readers into multiple notebook platforms," said Sapna Capoor, biometrics industry analyst at Frost & Sullivan. "The integration of fingerprint readers into keyboards symbolizes a significant step in the acceptance process for fingerprint biometrics. This will help DigitalPersona expand its reach into corporate environments."

"The new DigitalPersona U.are.U Fingerprint Keyboard offers desktop users the comfort and security of fingerprint biometrics with a new ergonomic design," said Chip Mesec, senior product marketing manager of DigitalPersona. "It combines performance with convenience for those who want to minimize the number of peripheral devices on the desktop."

The new keyboard uses DigitalPersona's optical placement technology to achieve superior image quality, a large capture area and greater reliability. The keyboard is ideal for networked office environments and e-commerce applications where the convenience and security of fingerprint authentication is desired.

The new biometric keyboard works with DigitalPersona Pro 4.1, the company's authentication software for users who require enterprise secure sign-on and remote access using Citrix and Microsoft Terminal Services (MTS).
