Digital kiosk nixed in Willie McCovey commemoration project

There will be no digital kiosk used in a commemorative effort regarding San Francisco Giant icon Willie McCovey.

The Giants organization had planned to have the kiosk replace bricks around the Willie McCovey statue, located in the stadium's right field. The kiosk, according to a report at The Mercury News, would display messages fans paid for in buying a brick for the statue location as the bricks were destroyed during construction four years ago.

The Giants are now exploring other potential ways to share the fans' messages as the kiosk plan was met with big fan backlash.

Fans paid between $95 to $250 when buying a brick.
