Diebold to supply touchscreen voting terminals in Texas

March 19, 2003

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- Diebold Election Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE: DBD), has been selected to install between 700 and 1,000 electronic voting systems in 155 precincts within Collin County, Texas, which is located north of Dallas.

Pending final details, the contract will amount to between $2.7 and $3.7 million.

Sharon Rowe, elections administrator for Collin County, said in a news release that her county selected Diebold Election Systems because of its experience installing touchscreen systems in other counties of a similar or larger size.

Collin County has approximately 315,000 registered voters who will use Diebold's touch-screen stations for two weeks of early voting in October, and again on Nov. 4, according to the release.

Last year, San Diego County (Calif.) signed a contract with Diebold for 10,000 touchscreen systems, a $25 million to $30 million deal. (See related story Diebold gets another touchscreen voting deal, in San Diego)

Diebold trained about 6,000 poll workers in Georgia before the election and supplied 190 field technicians, 160 county support technicians and a dozen regional support managers throughout nearly 3,000 precincts across Georgia, for a cost of about $54 million.
