Device cuts cost of running iPad POS solutions

Business owners can now run their iPad POS systems without additional Internet connection hardware or wiring with the launch of Revel Systems' new Router. The patent-pending Revel Router accesses an Internet connection directly via the user's Verizon 3G- or 4G-enabled Apple iPad, eliminating the need for an Ethernet router or a MiFi 3G hotspot, according to a company press release.

By removing the need for bulky connectivity hardware and cabling, the Revel Router saves retailers the time and money it takes to maintain traditional POS infrastructure. This first-of-its-kind transformative connectivity solution is purpose-built to meet the needs of POS users, allowing them to focus on what matters most — better serving their end customers, Lisa Falzone, CEO and co-founder of Revel Systems, said in the release.

"The Revel Router is completely disruptive for the point-of-sale industry," she said. "Many of our customers need quick, easy-to-use mobile solutions, so spending time troubleshooting an Ethernet router just isn't an option, and the Revel Router completely solves this problem. There are no cables or cords, and you don't have to deal with Internet connectivity issues, which allows for a completely seamless cloud-based solution. It just works."

The company developed the Revel Router as a proprietary technology in conjunction with the Apple Hardware program. Until now, Revel Systems has released the router to only a few select beta testers and has received positive responses, Falzone said.

Priced at $3,200 per terminal, the Revel Router is available for pre-order and will ship June 29.
