Detroit city officials have investigated a claim that a skimmed parking kiosk caused fraudulent charges on a person's credit card and do not believe the skimming occurred on the kiosk, according to WXYZ-TV.
Briana Harkiewicz said she used her credit card to pay for parking in a kiosk last Monday, and by the weekend had $200 in fraudulent charges on her account.
Detroit city officials investigating the complaint said the kiosk would have prevented the parking transaction from being processed if there was a skimmer device on the kiosk.
Two parking department officials checked the kiosks after 7 Action News contacted them on Monday and said they found nothing unusual.
Skimmers are placed on the outside of machines that take credit cards, ATMs and gas pumps, and are usually removed after a day or two.
