Detroit now enforcing new parking kiosks

Detroit parking officials plan to start ticketing violators of the city's new parking kiosk system.

September 1, 2015

In July, Detroit parking enforcement officials announced plans to deploy new self-service parking kiosks. Recently, the city began to enforce ticketing for violators, according to areportby The Detroit News.

The ParkDetroit kiosk system ties its fees to the driver's license plate not the parking spaces. The driver simply enters their license plate number, and park in any spaces in specific zones. Previously, the parking officials had not been enforcing fines, but now it is charging violators.

"We understood that some motorists would need time to get comfortable using the new kiosks; therefore, we wanted to relax parking enforcement to give everyone a chance to get familiar with the new system," Norm White, director of the Detroit Municipal Parking Department, said in a statement.

Drivers can go to www.ParkDetroit.us to pay tickets or contest tickets. They can also download a mobile app to pay for parking and receive text alerts as their time is about to expire.
