DENVER -- Installation of 77 parking stations will begin this September on sidewalks in Denver's Cherry Creek North area.
The parking-station kiosks will accept both cash and credit cards, and print a receipt that the driver places on the vehicle dashboard, according to a report in the Rocky Mountain News.
Denver's project is expected to generate $1.1 million yearly for the city, though much of the parking money at first will go toward debt on the kiosks and on a newly built parking garage in the area, the report said.
David Broadwell, an assistant city attorney, said in the report that Denver will pay $40,000 yearly to the business district to help maintain the kiosks.
The business-improvement district will help market the kiosk plan to employees of local stores, the report said. The plan is designed to get vehicles owned by merchants' employees off the streets to make room for customers.
