Delta testing self-service for boarding

Delta Air Lines Inc. is taking self-service a step further than most airports that, for example, may already have self-check-in kiosks. Delta is now testing a self-service turnstile that lets fliers scan their own boarding passes using a machine at the gate, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

While there are already at least 17 airlines in Europe and Asia using self-boarding machines, there are none using them "officially" in the U.S. Several carriers are testing them, however, according to the International Air Transport Association.

Delta is testing the device in Atlanta and Las Vegas and said it has no plans to expand the test to other airports.

Officials at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas said that so far tests are going well and that the airport plans to make 14 gates with self-boarding machines available to interested airlines by the end of summer.
