Dell opens try before you buy kiosk

May 3, 2004

NEW SOUTH WALES--Dell announced it will open a series of multimedia kiosks that allow customers a hands-on trial with Dell equipment before purchasing it online.

Customers may use kiosks to try Dell's Inspiron notebook and Dimension desktop computers, and a wide array computer peripherals and accessories. Customers can then order their chosen products at the kiosk for direct home delivery, according to an article on ZDNet Australia.

David Miller, managing director for Dell Australia and New Zealand, told ZDNet that direct online sales remain the "core of how consumers purchase our [Dell] products." However, he said, kiosks play an important role in the process.

"This program extends that approach to consumers who have told us that they would also value opportunities to see, touch and actually play with our products as they purchase," Miller said. "It takes all the economies and customer flexibility of buying online and adds a hands-on approach," said Miller.
