Defense Department recruits KIS for kiosk project

August 6, 2002

BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- Kiosk Information Systems (KIS) has completed a deal to provide the U.S. Department of Defense with 75 interactive recruiting kiosks for the various branches of the armed forces.

The Defense Department is in the process of deploying the kiosks, called Interactive Billboards, at public locations nationwide. The kiosks are aimed at potential recruits, male and female, aged 17 to 25.

The kiosksfeature a continuous loop DVD film with action footage from all U.S. military branches. There are also separate film loops for each branch, available through the touch of a button. A telephone on the side of the unit links directly to recruiting bureaus, so potential recruits can immediately call in their interest in serving.

Unlike most kiosk projects, the Interactive Billboard does not contain a computer, instead relying on video players to project information. A control board located within the unit maintains its functions and tracks usage statistics.

KIS officials said the design allows for easy setup and transportation, which will allow the Defense Department to quickly move the units.
