The Los Angeles Metro has upgraded its bicycle-sharing kiosks to accept credit card payments, according to a report by my news LA.
Metro and the city of Los Angeles launched the program on July 7 to ease traffic congestion and encourage healthy lifestyles, the partners said in an earlier announcement.
Metro has deployed the bike kiosks at 60 stations throughout the city, and offers a total of 1,000 bicycles. Riders can use a bike-share app to purchase passes and find the nearest bicycle.
Currently, only riders with a monthly or annual pass can rent bicycles. However, starting Aug. 1, the bicycles will be available for single-use rentals, according to the report. Through Oct. 1, Metro will offer a special $1.75 walk-up rate for 30 minutes of bike use in order to raise awareness of the program.
