CyberLink updates facial recognition software to detect masks

July 2, 2020

CyberLink Corp. has updated its facial recognition software, FaceMe, to detect if users are wearing masks. The software can detect if users are wearing a variety of masks such as medical, cloth, fiber or N95 masks, according to a press release.

End users can integrate FaceMe into digital signage, security cameras, point-of-sales systems and other connected devices. It can notify personnel if customers are not wearing masks.

"It's no question that COVID-19 has changed the way we work and live, with a timetable for a certain return to normalcy riddled with uncertainty. It is now a fact of life, alongside the idea that wearing a mask in public is essential protection to fight the virus," Jau Huang, CEO of CyberLink, said in the release. "With the power of AI, FaceMe can help ensure that we are all doing our part and wearing a mask in public while also enabling key business-oriented contactless solutions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and other diseases now, and in the future."

Over the next few months, CyberLink will also integrate thermal body imaging and crowd counting to FaceMe, according to the release.
