A Texas Roadhouse customer questioned a payment kiosk after it allegedly displayed $16.28 as a 20% tip on a $66.66 bill, according to a Gamepur report. In a TikTok video, the diner challenged the calculation: Twenty percent of $66.66 is $13.33, while the suggested amount equals approximately 24.4%.
Texas Roadhouse previously said its suggested gratuities are calculated using the after-tax total before discounts are deducted. That approach can produce a suggested tip exceeding 20% of the amount a customer ultimately pays.
The report also cited a separate diner's complaint that a kiosk suggested a tip exceeding the selected percentage on a bill without discounts. The cause of that discrepancy remained unresolved. Customers can enter a custom gratuity and ask restaurant staff to explain the calculation before completing payment.
