Those 17-foot pickup lockers at Walmart are being sent to storage.

The retailer is removing 300 and "hibernating" 1,300 lockers as they weren't being used much because the company said consumers seem to favor curbside pickup, according to the New York Post, citing a Wall Street Journal report.

The lockers had been placed at store entrances to help customers stop in and retrieve online orders.

"The customer told us they want one pickup spot, and they want that pickup spot to be outside," a Walmart spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal.

Walmart is assessing how it could can re-use the pickup towers, according to the story.
