Cryptocurrency kiosks square off in Chicago

Chicago now has at least three cryptocurrency exchange kiosks. Lux Vending recently became the newest operator, having installed 30 machines since the beginning of the year under the Bitcoin Depot, brand according to Crain's Chicago Business. The company operates 200 machines nationwide, CEO Brandon Mintz said.

Competitors include Red Leaf Chicago and Athena Bitcoin. Red Leaf has operated its Digital Mint machines since 2014 and currently operates 60 of its approximately 200 machines in Chicago, with the balance located across 21 states. 

Athena Bitcoin has three bitcoin exchange kiosks in Chicago among the 65 it operates in the U.S. Worldwide, Athena operates a total of 100 cryptocurrency kiosks.
