Correctional facility visitors, personnel benefit from self-service kiosks

July 14, 2008

LOWER PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Visitors at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Lower Providence Township, Pa., are now able to deposit funds for inmates at two self-service kiosks located the prison.

According to a news release, the eZ Deposit Kiosk created by Digital Solutions/Inmate Telephone Inc. accepts cash or credit-card deposits into an inmate's commissary or phone account.

The kiosks have helped the prison cut labor hours spent manuually counting and balancing funds. The kiosks use an advanced locking mechanism that tracks who has accessed the cash deposit bin, also eliminating security risks and hassles associated with handling money.

Additionally, the kiosks have reduced visitation lines by at least 65 percent in the facility.

"On visitor days, I used to watch numerous family members backed up in lines stretching out the door," said Warden Julio Algarin. "Now, those wanting to make a quick deposit simply use the kiosks in the lobby — they don't have to wait in those long visitor lines."
