Correctional center in Indiana installs telemedicine kiosk

January 24, 2018

The Westville Correctional Center in Westville, Indiana, recently installed a telemedicine kiosk as a convenience and less expensive health care option for the 750 employees who work at the prison and their families, according to the Herald Argus.

Employees with anything short of an emergency can request permission from their supervisor to spend up to 30 minutes consulting with a doctor at the kiosk without affecting their sick time or work leave.

The cost of a visit to the kiosk is $49, the same or less than visiting a doctor's office or urgent care clinic — and much less than the cost of a visit to a hospital emergency room, according to Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Indiana.

Anthem previously installed a telemedicine kiosk in an Indiana state government building after unveiling a kiosk in December at Pendleton Correctional Facility, northeast of Indianapolis.
