HOUSTON -- Completing a project designed to fully automate its hubs, Continental Airlines (NYSE:CAL) plans to unveil its new domestic check-in facility at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston on June 28.
The facility is fully automated, with self-service, check-in kiosks taking the place of traditional check-in counters. Continental's new facility, known as the Airport of the Future, is located at Terminal C at Bush Intercontinental Airport.
With the completion of its Houston center, Continental now offers fully automated check-in services at all of its hubs - Houston, Newark, N.J., Cleveland, Boston, Chicago, and Raleigh-Durham. The airline also plans to open a similar facility at Baltimore-Washington International Airport later this year.
Airline officials said the hub was designed to be faster and more efficient than traditional check-in counters. Customers can check in, check luggage, and print boarding passes at Continental's eService Center kiosks.
Continental, which offers more than 2,100 daily departures to 211 domestic and international locations, currently operates 630 kiosks at more than 100 U.S. airports.
