Officials in New Canaan, Connecticut, are considering installing eight new parking kiosks in the downtown area, according to a CT Insider report. The proposal would expand the town's paid parking program, launched in October, which converted previously free parking on some downtown streets into metered spaces with a 2-hour limit.
Town leaders say the expansion is aimed at reducing traffic congestion, particularly on Locust Avenue, where residents have complained about delivery drivers, especially from app-based food services, using the street as a staging and waiting area. Speaking at a recent Board of Selectmen meeting, First selectman Dionna Carlson noted that Locust Avenue has become a recurring source of concern for residents due to loitering and traffic backups.
The proposed kiosks would cost approximately $90,774, according to Town Budget Manager Ryan Stacy, with the expense funded through bonding to minimize immediate taxpayer impact. Specific kiosk locations have not yet been finalized.
