The Norwalk Police Department in Connecticut has introduced a self-service kiosk designed to make non-emergency police services more accessible to residents and visitors, according to a Patch report.

Installed in the lobby of police headquarters at 1 Monroe St., the kiosk allows users to complete routine requests without speaking directly with an officer. The department announced the installation Oct. 8 as part of its efforts to improve customer service and expand public access to police resources.

The kiosk enables residents to obtain case numbers for minor incidents that do not require an investigation, such as lost property or damaged mailboxes. Users can also submit crime and traffic tips, request police reports, file Freedom of Information requests, schedule fingerprinting appointments and pay parking tickets. Additional functions include submitting referrals to the department's Behavioral Health Unit, obtaining information about licenses and permits, and accessing a city directory.

The system offers services in five languages, providing additional accessibility for residents who may not be comfortable using English. Police officials told the news outlet the kiosk is intended to simplify routine transactions and make departmental services more convenient and responsive to community needs.
