Spooky Nook Sports in Manheim, Penn., has deployed an advanced digital signage system with ConnectedSign. Boasting the country's largest indoor sports facility, Spooky Nook said it wanted to implement digital signage displays in order to communicate messages and events throughout the complex in a stimulating fashion. Signage includes digital menu boards for their food service areas, displays for the climbing menu and a wayfinding map display.
"This project was different than most," said Zach Kolodziejski, lead interface designer at ConnectedSign. "This wasn't a deployment at a location that was already established. It was growing as we were working on the project."
The sheer scale of the facility was a challenge to designers, though it was a challenge solved in part by digital signage with the addition of a touchscreen kiosk providing locations and information for both guests and staff.
"It's the largest sports complex in the country, so there isn't really a point of reference that you can really comprehend until you are physically on site," Kolodziejski said. "A 55-inch display looks large when it's in a waiting room lobby, but when you're in an area that is about a half-acre alone, graphically, you have to think ahead and make sure things aren't too small, or looking out of place."
ConnectedSign said that, moving forward, more digital signage displays will be deployed to the multiple meeting rooms on the second floor, some of which are capable of accommodating more than 100 guests. Also, the sports facility will be adding a hotel in which it expects to deploy digital signage that will be lighting up the hallways from floor to floor.
"The wayfinding maps are an asset for both our staff and guests and the signs are a hit, especially with the families and the kids that come in," said Stephanie Jordan, marketing coordinator at Spooky Nook Sports. "The acquisition of an interactive touchscreen will be a great addition and will allow our guests to physically interact with the signs, giving them a one of a kind experience when they walk into our facility."
