Companies agree on holographic tech in public kiosks

July 17, 2003

DARIEN, Conn. --InfoPerks LLC will use HoloTouch Inc.'s patented interactive holographic-control technology in touchless information kiosks to be located in public spaces and on sidewalks in New York City and Westchester County, New York.

The kiosks will appear first in lower Manhattan. A news release did not disclose terms of the license agreement or the timeframe of the deployment.

R. Douglas McPheters, HoloTouch president, said, "People operate these devices by simply `touching' 3D images floating in the air. Pedestrians will have easy access to information about their surroundings as well as entertainment offerings and restaurants, while connecting advertisers to interested consumers." He added that users' hygiene concerns are bypassed because there's nothing to actually touch.

McPheters said HoloTouch is talking with manufacturers interested in licensing HoloTouch for use in other high-traffic consumer applications such as ATMs. The technology is also suitable for entertainment, factory floor, medical and military hardware applications, he said.

The holographic lens module technology that projects images into the air in front of the public kiosks owned by InfoPerks has been licensed from LED Solution Inc.

LED Solution President Mark Stever said, "Using our technology, InfoPerks can project exciting images into the air in front of its kiosks, delighting onlookers while offering them useful information about the opportunities available in nearby locations."
