CHICAGO -- Commonwealth Edison, which supplies power to 3.4 million customers in Chicago and other parts of northern Illinois, recently installed its first bill-payment kiosk in Chicago and has plans to expand the program.
The kiosks allow ComEd customers to pay bills by scanning their bill stubs through the machine. The kiosk accepts cash, check, or money order payments.
ComEd officials said seven additional kiosks would be deployed in Chicago and Northern Illinois over next three months. Discussions are also ongoing for future developments.
Software and hardware for the kiosk were developed by Diebold Inc., but ComEd officials would not disclose how much the units cost. The bill-paying kiosks are part of an electronic customer service initiative that also includes an e-mail payment service.
