Colorado legislature approves vehicle registration kiosks

May 27, 2016

The Colorado legislature recently approved a law that will allow users to renew their vehicle registration via kiosks. Arapahoe County plans to deploy kiosks in county buildings by 2017, according to a report by The Villager.

The law allows counties to partner with kiosk providers to offer services such as registration renewal. The user simply scans the barcode on the renewal notice and pays by cash, check, credit card or debit card. Upon payment, the user receives a printed registration documnent and license-plate tabs from the kiosk.

The Arapahoe Motor Vehicle Division is currently the busiest in the state of Colorado. "Statewide our motor vehicle offices are stretched thin by a booming economy and growing population,” said Matt Crane, clerk and recorder for Arapahoe County. "Self-service kiosks will help us to reduce wait times by diverting customers from our offices and [will] provide a convenient, efficient alternative."

Crane is planning to partner with the Colorado Department of Revenue to get the kiosks deployed by 2017.
