Colorado has taken a significant step towards modernizing its vehicle emissions testing program. The Colorado Air Quality Control Commission recently approved the introduction of self-service kiosks for gas-powered and hybrid vehicles, according to a KDVR report.
These 24/7 accessible kiosks will allow drivers to conduct diagnostic emissions tests at their convenience, reducing wait times. The implementation of these kiosks is scheduled for 2026, with specific locations to be announced at a later date.
In addition to the self-service kiosks, the Commission has also adopted stricter emissions compliance requirements for diesel-powered vehicles, aiming to improve air quality and vehicle efficiency.
"Protecting Colorado's clean air is a shared responsibility," Michael Ogletree, director of the CDPHE Air Pollution Control Division, told the news outlet. "These updates will make emissions testing more convenient for Coloradans while enhancing air quality across the Front Range."
