Coinstar to count change for charity

September 6, 2012

The Seattle-based Change Making Change Fund announced today a partnership with the Ben Towne Foundation for cancer research to support its 2012 Summer Coin Drive to raise money for National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The CMC Fund is a non-profit organization that aims to make global progress through the collection of spare pocket change and is working in conjunction with Coinstar's Coins that Count program.

On Sept. 23, families can bring boxes of collected coins to the QFC grocery store in Seattle’s University District and use the Coinstar kiosk to count and donate the spare change.

"Our partnership with Change Making Change makes it easier for families to participate in our summer coin drive," said Jeff Towne, founder of the Ben Towne Foundation, in the announcement. "Hearing coins fall through a Coinstar kiosk gives children an added level of excitement in the charitable giving process. Thanks to Change Making Change, we've added more fun and convenience into our campaign."

According to the announcement, donations to the coin drive can be made throughout the month of September at any Coinstar kiosk that participates in the Coins that Count program.
