SUFFOLK, England -- UK media technology company Cityspace Ltd. is trying to make it easier to get from one place to another in one part of England. The company on June 26 formally launched its Public Transport Journey Planner on four kiosks in the Suffolk area.
The planner, launched on Cityspace's i-plus kiosks that were initially deployed in April, provides information on buses and trains, including routes and times. Directional tools also offer users the best routes to each destination. The planner is being tested on travelers in the Suffolk area cities of Ipswich, Lowestoft, and Bury St. Edmunds.
"This project marries up two key county council priorities - improving access to information about services, and through that, encouraging people to use public transport," Kathy Pollard, Suffolk County Council executive committee member for information technology, said in a news release.
Cityspace officials said the kiosks were averaging 50 uses per day before the planners were installed. If the project is successful, the company intends to deploy the planner nationally, with London and Bristol the next probable locations for the service.
