Cityspace installs eight information kiosks around town

July 7, 2003

GLOUCESTER, England -- Cityspace Ltd. and Adshel Ltd. have partnered to install eight new information kiosks around the city center that will give visitors and tourists the opportunity to get real time news and information at the touch of a screen.

The i+ Point units will let people access city council services and pick up information and news from around the world. Some free services include:

  •  Sending e-mail anywhere in the world
  •  Accessing BBC News, travel and weather information
  •  Searching the city council's A-Z of services
  •  Searching for jobs anywhere in the country
  •  Reporting problems like abandoned vehicles to the city council
  •  Accessing a 24-hour helpline for children and young people
  •  Getting advice on stopping and reporting crime
  •  Playing e-games specially designed for the kiosk environment.

Next up on i+Points, according to a news release, is getting information on what's going on in Gloucester such as shows and events.

Deputy Leader of the council Mary Smith said, "This is a significant step in the city council's plan to become more accessible by using new technology. The kiosks will provide residents and visitors up-to-date information on a range of subjects by just touching a small screen."

She said the kiosks will help achieve government targets for providing services online.
