Cityspace expands service to Blackpool

September 2, 2002

BLACKPOOL, England -- With a helping hand from an English comedy duo, UK media technology company Cityspace Ltd. recently introduced its i-plus information kiosks in the English city of Blackpool.

Three i-plus kiosks have been deployed in Blackpool's town center as part of an agreement between Cityspace and the Blackpool Borough Council. The units offer free e-mail and information on local jobs, transportation, entertainment, and ticketing.

Cannon and Ball, a Christian comedy team that have been together for 35 years, launched the service, using one of the kiosks to access information about the duo's summer season. At the time, Cannon and Ball were appearing at Blackpool's Comedy Bonanza 2002.

"The council is committed to becoming more accessible to the public," Blackpool borough council member Eddie Collett said in a news release. "i-plus points enable people to get or give information any time of the day Â… and we are very pleased that Cannon and Ball have given it their thumbs up."

Cityspace i-plus kiosks are also deployed in nine London boroughs, Bristol, and Bath.
