CipherTrust touts secure access to Web-based e-mail

August 19, 2002

ATLANTA -- E-mail security firm CipherTrust Inc. has added enhancements to its IronWebMail gateway appliance in an attempt to add extra security for businesses utilizing Web-based e-mail.

The Atlanta-based company said the enhancements would give companies greater security when employees access corporate e-mail accounts through remote locations such as Internet kiosks at airport.

IronWebMail's new enhancements include secure log-on and log-off support, proxy connection features that detect and eliminate access and security threats. The appliance also features measures to eliminate hidden HTTP-based attacks that occur when harmful instructions are slipped into URLs. All encrypted and unencrypted traffic is inspected within the system.

"Web-enabled corporate e-mail is in high demand in the business world because of its convenience," Steve Raber, CipherTrust president and chief operating officer, said in a news release. "CipherTrust is making security for Web-enabled e-mail access `commercial grade' so IT administrators can offer remote access to corporate e-mail with confidence."
