The Miami Herald: Self-service appears to be heading for new heights in air travel, especially during the flight check-in process.
After personal computers with Internet access and self-service kiosks at airports, cell phones are poised to become the next device airline passengers may use for flight check in without human intervention.
Two European companies are at the center of this tech development in travel. An airline check-in service for cell phone users that employs a bar code system is being developed jointly by units of SITA, a Geneva, Switzerland-based seller of airport information technology, and Siemens, the Munich, Germany-based electronics giant.
