HONG KONG - Cathay Pacific on Nov. 23 joined the growing fleet of air carriers that offer self-service check-in kiosks for its passengers. The airline's CXpress kiosk line was introduced at Hong Kong International Airport, the airline's central Hong Kong check-in location, and Taipei International Airport.
The CXpress line has features similar to most airline check-in kiosks, including ticket collection and seat selection. But the system also offers lounge invitations, notices on where to check-in bags at the airport, and destination information.
Cathay Pacific officials said it was crucial to offer advanced customer service functions as the airline industry struggles to return to normalcy following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
"Cathay Pacific is pushing ahead with these e-Business products despite this difficult period for the airline industry because they offer clear advantages both for our passengers and our company," Robert Cutler, Cathay Pacific service delivery director, said in a news release.
Cathay Pacific offers passenger service throughout the Pacific Rim and the rest of Asia. The airline also flies to Europe and South Africa. Cathay Pacific is part of the oneworld global airline alliance, whose members also include American Airlines, British Airways, and Qantas Airways.
