WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- Card Concepts Inc. has integrated an MEI cash acceptor into its new X-Changer LaundryCard kiosks, according to an MEI news release.
The kiosks, which are designed to help automate the Laundromat industry, allow customers to use $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50 or $100 bills to purchase prepaid service cards that work like rechargeable debit cards and activate the laundry machines. Card Concepts has installed X-Changer kiosks in 26 U.S. locations, according to the release.
The company designed its X-Changer kiosk to solely accept cash after determining that cash is used almost exclusively by laundry service consumers. That makes the bill acceptor's functionality and reliability crucial, said Steve Marcionetti, Card Concepts' project manager.
According to the release, MEI is one of the world's leading manufacturers of electronic bill acceptors, coin mechanisms and other electronic payment systems. The company developed the world's first electronic coin validator in the late 1960s and today, has the largest, worldwide installed base of unattended payment mechanisms.
