Canadian medical center uses kiosks to improve customer service

November 20, 2002

MONTREAL, Quebec -- Tiny Tots Medical Centre, Canada's largest privately owned pediatric ambulatory care facility, says it has completed a successful 9 month pilot in which patients scheduled appointments over the Internet. Patients also used touchscreen kiosks to register at the center and make non-Medicare payments.

The technology, used to increase efficiency and provide enhanced services to patients while reducing operational overhead, was provided by Timing Software Corporation.

During the pilot, up to 50 percent of patients made their own appointments online, and
40 percent checked themselves in at the kiosks, according to a news release.

The center's executive director, Susie Petrusa, said in the release, "We offer patients the conveniences of 24/7 appointment-making and streamlined check-in, just like banks have been doing for years."

Tiny Tots Medical Centre sees 75,000 patients per year with a medical staff of 25.
