BURNABY, British Columbia, Canada - Plans to keep its citizens informed through the use of a kiosk has earned Airdrie, a community of nearly 20,000 located just north of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, a $16,000 grant from Canadian telecommunications company TELUS Corp. (NYSE:TU).
TELUS Corp. honored Airdrie with a TELUS Community Innovation award, one of four that was handed out by the company. TELUS established the fund in 2000 to reward community groups and municipal governments for their commitment to technological innovation.
Airdrie's award will go toward creation of a Virtual City Hall kiosk that will allow users to search databases for property information and assessments, along with registering and paying for city recreational programs.
