California's public utilities commission has approved $1 billion for an EV charging project, most of it to support midsize and heavy-duty trucks, according to a Los Angeles Times report.

Nearly three quarters (70%) of the funds will support charging for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.

The costs of the five-year program, from 2025 to 2029, will be covered by California utility ratepayers.

Each year, the state utilities will allocate $200 million which will be returned to customers in the form of rebates.
