The Valley Transportation Authority in San Jose, California has upgraded all 153 ticket vending machines at light rail stations to accept contactless payment, including chip and contactless credit/debit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, according to a press release.

Patrons can buy tickets and passes, and reload Clipper cards.

This upgrade improves ease of use, reduces contact with high-touch surfaces and ensures that ticket vending machine transactions are processed more securely, reducing the risk of tampering or unlawful data collection.
