Police recently posted a picture of a skimming device after a Walmart employee found the device on a self-checkout kiosk at the Linda, California store near Sacramento, according to a report in The U.S. Sun.
Skimming occurs when a scammer attaches a device to a payment terminal to allow the scammer to record the victims' PIN numbers and steal their funds.
The skimming device resembles the original card reader and is placed over the original reader. The overlay records the victim's strokes as they enter their PIN number.
One difference is the original reader is concave in shape, curving inward, while the skimming device curves outward.
