According to BankInfoSecurity.com, West Covina, Calif., is launching a public awareness campaign about pay-at-the-pump skimming. West Covina city police recently discovered card-skimming devices installed in self-service gas pumps to collect magnetic-stripe details and PINs.
City officials issued an alert after skimmers were found on three pumps at two separate gas stations. Last year, police in Florida issued similar warnings, advising residents to avoid paying at the pump, instead suggesting they pay inside, with cash.
Two suspects have been arrested in the California incident, another in the growing number of card-skimming schemes targeting pay-at-the-pump gas terminals.
