Brewery makes multimillion-dollar investment in handhelds

MONTREAL, Canada -- La Brasserie Labatt is automating its 270 delivery routes with Intermec handheld computers and O'Neilprinters. This multimillion-dollar investment makes La Brasserie Labatt the first brewery to equip its delivery team with this new state-of-the-art tool.

With its touchscreen and scanner, the handheld will make for faster processing and product delivery, according to a news release.

"By upgrading the handheld computers and printers we use for billing, we've taken another step in our effort to lighten the load on our delivery team to make it more efficient and better able to serve our 20,000 customers," said Jacques Boivin, vice president of logistics for La Brasserie Labatt.

Labatt's new handhelds will come withRoute Partner andRoute Manager software from Omniciel International, a Quebec-based vendor of sales-force automation and mobile-account management.
