CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Bluesocket, a developer of roaming software for wireless devices based on the Bluetooth standard, and
Circle Network, a leading European provider of public Internet kiosks, today announced an agreement to incorporate Bluesocket's wireless access technology in Circle Network's Internet eKiosks. The technology will provide users of mobile devices equipped with Bluetooth, including laptop computers, mobile phones and PDAs, with high-speed access to their corporate networks and the Internet so that they can send and receive data and messages while on the move.
Dublin-based Circle Network is currently rolling out a network of eKiosks in 750 pedestrian-heavy locations in Ireland and 1,000 in the United Kingdom with further expansion planned across Europe. These public eKiosks act as touchscreen Internet-access terminals that allow consumers to write e-mails, shop online and browse the Web for about 10 cents per minute.
According to Bluesocket, the inclusion of Bluesocket technology will enable the eKiosks to operate as base stations or wireless ISP points, that will permit persistent Internet connectivity.
