Blockbuster posts $65.4 million net loss in first quarter

Despite several expansions of its Blockbuster Express branded kiosks nationwide, Blockbuster reported a $65.4 million net loss in the first quarter of 2010. The Wall Street Journal's Market Watch reports that the company had a net loss of $27.7 million in the first quarter of 2009.
Blockbuster's strategic alliance with DVD-rental kiosk deployer NCR has deployed 4,000 kiosks nationwide, and intends to expand to 10,000 kiosks by year's end. According to the report, company executives expect the next year to be "challenging," and that the company will focus this year on reducing operating expenses, preserving liquidity and improving operational efficiencies.
