Biometric technology invades friendlyway kiosks

February 21, 2002

SAN FRANCISCO - Kiosk developer friendlyway Inc. is continuing the trend of blending biometric and kiosk technologies. The company announced on Nov. 29 it will partner with Viisage Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:VISG) to offer Viisage's biometrics in its Intelligent Internet Stations kiosk line.

Viisage's face-recognition technology will be added to the kiosks, which are utilized at tradeshows and in conference settings.

"We were most impressed by Viisage's superior technology, which we have already begun to integrate into our Intelligent Internet Solutions," Alexander Von Welczeck, friendlyway president, said in a news release.

Viisage's face-recognition software is being installed at Logan International Airport in Boston as part of a test program (See story: Logan to test biometrics systems). The two jets involved in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center were based out of Logan.
