Florida Today: A first-of-its-kind privately run program that allows travellers to offer up their biometric information at an airport kiosk in exchange for an exclusive security line and the promise of no random secondary pat-downs debuted at the Orlando International Airport June 21.
The passengers, who pay $80 a year to join the program called "Clear," register with the Transportation Security Administration by computer either at home or at the airport and give their biometric data at an airport kiosk. If the passengers are approved, they get a translucent card that holds a computer chip containing their fingerprints and iris image for quick identity verification.
