Billbitcoins, a global payment network powered by cryptocurrencies owned by HashCash, a software company, will provide its payment processing for a project targeting the unbanked in Ethiopia using self-serve kiosks, according to a press release. The project will make use of crypto tokens to securely transfer funds.
The kiosks will accept payment in fiat and convert it to crypto tokens that can be transferred via an app. The receiver can then use the coins for purchase or convert them into fiat for a nominal fee at a local post office or kiosk.
The deployment is scheduled to take place early in September.
"The domestic fund transfer project is a powerful concept that incorporates most functionalities of a bank sans the ordeal involved in the process and at a fractional charge," Raj Chowdhury, HashCash Consultants CEO, said in the release.
Billbitcoins technology is deployed across five continents.
