DALLAS -- Best Buy Co. Inc. (NYSE:BBY) has chosen Fujitsu's GlobalSTORE software for its point-of-sale (POS) applications in its store systems and kiosks.
The software will be used in more than 1,300 of Best Buys's Musicland Group stores, according to a Best Buy news release. Musicland's stores include Sam Goody, Media Paly, Suncoast and On Cue. Financial details were not released.
The GlobalSTORE rollout began in April and is expected to be complete in late 2003, according to the release. The software will support 7,000 POS terminals.
In January, Best Buy rolled out its Creation Station kiosks in 95 Canadian locations. Customers link to Future Shop's Internet site and design their own computer, which is shipped to them at a later date (See story: The kiosk future is now at Future Shop).
