Bavarian lottery players to use Wincor Nixdorf systems

June 27, 2004

PADERBORN, Munich -- Wincor Nixdorf will equip the ticket acceptance points of the Bavarian State Lottery with 4,400 new Xion/Mtop lottery terminals, according to a company release.

Following in the footsteps of the Saxony lottery company and the operators in the German states of Mecklenburg West-Pomerania, Lower Saxony and North-Rhine Westphalia, this is now the fifth German lottery company to come down in favor of Wincor Nixdorf technology. This latest order means that Wincor Nixdorf has sold more than 13,000 terminals to German lottery companies.

Winning this project has enabled Wincor Nixdorf to reinforce its leading position in the German market as a supplier of all-round terminal solutions for lottery companies.

The order from what is Germany's second-largest lottery company by sales revenue comprises both terminals and also software and service components such as the Xicore terminal software and the application software used by the Xiload download server which allows software updates to be distributed to the terminals efficiently and with a high level of security.

In introducing the new generation of terminals, the Bavarian State Lottery is planning to introduce a central editorial content server, which is used to feed multimedia content to the new terminals' marketing displays. The editorial content server will be able to allow changes to be made to the text printed on the lottery receipts and to communicate up-to-the-minute information direct to the customer.

The rollout of all terminals - being conducted by the lottery company itself - is planned to be complete at the beginning of May 2006.
